To stay a child with SweetNSnappyDesigns

Yesterday my mom called me & she was a bit sad & tired. I thought I had to do something in order to help her mood to become better. It´s not nice if one goes to bed in a bad mood. What did I do? I just linked her a wonderful & funny pictures of animals, we laughed a lot, we talked more than an hour discovering more & more funny photos...
Looking at the pictures of our next feature I´m so sure that they are not only for children. Imagine, that my mom had them at home? What will happen? She would never feel upset!!! And that´s for sure! They are definitely not only for children but for everybody who like his life to be full of love & wonderful childish atmosphere!

So, today the hero of our story isn´t my mom (although she deserves to be featured here as well:), but a talented illustrator & graphic designer Athena behind her wonderful SweetNSnappyDesigns etsy shop

I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an artist. After high school I got my BFA in graphic design and worked as a designer for 6 years in a corporate setting before finally opening my Etsy shop. My two daughters, Antonia (age 4) and Amelie (age 21 months) are my true inspiration behind my art and illustrations. Antonia will often sit next to me and tell me what to draw or what needs to be tweaked. I call her my "Art Director".

Describing myself : Patient. Open-minded. Quiet. Imaginative. Meticulous

I actually like all my illustrations but I'd have to say that the turtle is my favorite. I just really love turtles!

I think the key to Etsy success is loving what you do and loving the product that you sell. If you love it and put your entire self into it, you will be successful. It's all about creating something personal that someone else can connect with and appreciate.

I can't say that I've had one favorite customer...they are all great! I treat all my customers the same and am always willing to go that extra step to make them happy with their purchase from my shop. I love all my customers and am so thankful that they have given me the opportunity to share my artwork with them and their children!

All the pictures are so sweet & cute! I just can´t find the suitable words to express these warm feelings that Athena evokes with her art!!! Thank you for your wonderful personality! You bring so much light into the Universe with your wonderful animals :)

I love all of them & can´t choose my favourite one :)

CraftedLocaly´s Wonderful Idea

Today is the first day of December, of a new seasons. It means to me that there are new plans & expectation. How can one (me in this case:) accomplish the new tasks if the old ones are still waiting to be fulfilled?

I´ve noticed today, that I completely missed the message on my fb with the etsy shop story by beautiful Debora  from CraftedLocaly. Debora´s etsy shop in not only about her, But Crafted Locally is not just about Debora. It´s the place where she shows the works of many different artists from her area. This idea seems very fascinating & I hope that Debora´s nice story inspire somebody to lead such a project too :)

My dream is to provide a venue where artists and craftsmen can show their work and we all help promote each other. Maybe someone is interested in earrings, so they go to my site to look at earrings but then they see that another artists specializes in framing scripture quotes and they decide that would make a good gift. I am particularly inept technically and I thought there might be others out there with the same challenge. So instead of 3 or 4 of us having to learn the techie stuff, we would all work together to learn, support and encourage each other thereby leaving more time for our art or craft.

Currently there are only two artists - myself and Susan Baxley. Susan is an expert in origami. She has combined origami and jewelry making for a few items in the store. Susan is currently returning to college persuing her second Bachelors degree so her crafty days are more limited than mine. Any artist who lives here in Union County is welcome to join CraftedLocally...hence the name. We would all support each other.

I love that etsy specializes in hand crafted arts. It was an easy way for me to set up shop and not have to learn too much techie stuff and on etsy, we should be just competing with other handmade artists and not factories that can churn out the same item 10 time faster than an artist can make one.

The funniest thing is that I thought selling online would be so easy. Turns out it's not. And the most difficult thing about it is the photography. I've tried light boxes, taking them out doors, having other people take the pictures for me etc. One of the days when I was taking pictures out doors, my cat decided he wanted my undivided attention. So every time I would get a shot lined out, he would step into the frame. Fortunately, I was able to edit him out of a most.

When I get to feeling lazy, I switch gears. Maybe I'm not in the mood to make jewelry, then I make myself get on the camera. Or I'll sit down at the computer and browse through all the beautiful things on etsy and get inspired an motivated. Sometimes, I just call it a week and go read a favorite book.

Thank you, Debora, for your wonderful story. I´m so inspired by your idea that I´m sure one day I´ll combine the handmade artists from my area in a cosy online shop.

The Purple Hawk

These days are very busy with all the etsy stuff, I´m sure you understand what I´k talking about, but nevertheless I promised myself to continue my feature project. That´s why I´m here again & today we meet a wonderful child being 23 years old who stands behind the etsy shop The PURPLE HAWK.

So, meet Sarah form Webster, Massachusetts, US, who is very fond of making things & drawing :)
I was trying to think of something catchy and unique that people would remember. At the time, I was also trying to figure out what color I wanted to dye my new mohawk. Finally I decided and told my boyfriend that I wanted a purple 'hawk. And as soon as I said it I knew it was the perfect name. So really, the shop was named after my hair.

I like it when customers actually want to talk to me, or when they drop a line to say that they're really happy with their purchase. That always means a lot to me.

I like the finished product the most, and knowing that I made it myself. I'm really proud of my work, and I feel like I'm always improving.

Honestly? I usually have some song stuck in my head that just plays over and over and over. Last week it was Poisoning Pigeons in the Park by Tom Lehrer, and now it's that song by the Carpenter's that goes "I'm on top of the world looking down on creation..." The worst part is that's the only line I know. I really need a radio haha

I tend to maintain a very positive outlook on life. I believe everything happens for a reason, and no matter how bad things get I don't stress it too much because somehow it always works out in the end.

Sarah, we thank you for your story & wish you all the best for the upcoming holidays :) and of course sales :))))

Art in the Blue Square

I´ve already missed writing here. But the last week was so busy that I couldn´t manage it.

So, today I´d like to tell you about beautiful soul that is behind the wonderful etsy shop ART IN THE BLUE SQUARE

Sometimes it´s so easy to feel people. In this particular case I really feel the lady who creates this beauty. She comes from Hendersonville, North Carolina, United States & she is open & deep. Her art is here to bring everybody joy. Imagine how cozy your room would look like if the walls were dressed in these cute pictures. And if you get know the creator of this beauty yourself you´ll surely feel how beautiful is the soul behind ART IN THE BLUE SQUARE

My shop name originates from the concepts of my original works. When i began my shop all of my work featured square canvases with a simple blue background. Literally, all the pieces I produced were "art in the blue square". My shop officially opened in September 2011, after encouragement from others that wanted to buy pieces I had created for my own home, and for my children.

The creative process has always been something that intrigues me. I enjoy pulling out a blank canvas and seeing what happens. Some of my favorite pieces are not even available online because of the scale and weight they entail. These pieces are painted on salvaged wood and reveal themselves in the negative. In my own way I think backwards and like to see what the old salvaged piece of wood reveals to me as I paint it.

Art really means anything that you can experience with your senses and that moves you. I have a certain aesthetic that I enjoy, and in fact that sometimes varies wildly from the art that I myself create. I appreciate other peoples work and respect the time and efforts and creativity they put into their pieces. I can feel that a little piece of them comes with the work they create.

I think I could give a canned answer, but my honest answer is Marc Chagall. There is something so romantic about his pieces and I find them enchanting and humorous. I think that it is important to show love in art and I would like to know his inspiration and for him to tell me what love means to him.

I don't really have a Christmas wishlist. I am not one of those kind of people. I wish for the bigger things at Christmas than what can be provided by material things. But gift giving is one of my favorite parts of the holiday.

Thank you for your lovely story :) We wish you to be surrounded by so much love that you give the world with your art. Be inspired & full of energy to fulfill everything that you want to.

Everything old can be new again

Nowadays, there are so many people who really look for interesting pieces that have passed through times & lives of others. They have their own history inside & you notice it as soon as you hold them in your hands.

Our new hero is Erica from P & E Collectibles who loves vintage & sells it in her cosy etsy shop!

My name is Erica and I am from Buffalo, NY. I sell vintage jewelry and collectibles. I am both a collector and a seller. I was first interested in collecting vintage when I was introduced to I Love Lucy as a child by my mother, also a Lucy fan. I started collecting vintage Lucy items and have branched out since to other collections. My grandmother loved vintage jewelry and I think she passed that love on to me. I enjoy integrating vintage objects and styles into my home and dress. Everything old can be new again!

I am inspired by people who are passionate about their interests and people who care about preserving the past. I feel in some small part I am able to help preserve and celebrate the past through my shop.

I love having a home business. It provides flexibility and I continually keep learning every day.

"The more things you do, the more you can do." Lucille Ball

We thank Erica for a nice story & wish her wonderful time & all the best for the future :)

Lovely Cards by QsFlowerStand

Erika. from Santa Ana, California is our new hero. Her etsy shop QsFlowerStand is about charming & chic cards. It´s such a pleasure to get nice cards :)) I love it. To stay in touch with the loved ones in such a way it´s so romantic! So, here is Erika story for you to know who is a wonderful person behind these adorable cards!

I've been involved in the arts since I was about 4 years old. My family made it a point to expose me to as many avenues of art as possible, from the theater to photography. It has definitely led me to discover a creativity within myself. Before I started my shop on Etsy, I was a school teacher. Once I had my first child, it was important for me to stay at home. However, not wanting to get bored, I started experimenting with creative outlets and thus, my shop was born.

childish activity
I loved the theater and always have. I remember all of the performances I would put on with my friends as kids. We would charge money, make costumes, you name it. I wish we had them on film!
inspiring people
My family...especially my daughter. Living life through the eyes of a 2 year old can be quite an experience and one full of imagination and creativity. Other than that, I absolutely LOVE Shakespeare!

I like being creative because basically I think it's fun. But I'm sort of a math and logic type of person, so I enjoy figuring out what works and what doesn't!

favourite weather
I love rainy weather so much. Living in Southern California, you don't see a lot of it. So when we get it, I cherish it. It makes me want to curl up and drink my hot cocoa by the fireplace!

Thank you, Erica, for you cooperation & we wish you & all your family all the best for the future! ;)

Where are you from? - From CHILDHOOD!

We are all from childhood & this little wonderful child that still lives within us wants us to be free & happy. Influencing by different ocassions our inner childline nature is either on the surface or carefuly hidden behind our stereotypes & fears.

Our todays feature is wonderful lady, who surely knows what it means to stay a child Vicky Smith  from vickysmithart. And her story begins.

creative life...
As an illustrator I'm accustomed to using my art to convey an idea or illuminate a text. In many cases, I have used my images and turned them into objects in my Etsy shop. My masks and jumping jack dolls are good examples of that. It's nice to be able to take an original pastel drawing that is essentially very delicate and by printing it, you can turn it into an object that can be handled.

emotions...
I hope that my art makes people smile. It has a certain nostalgic look that evokes childhood.
As a child..
.When I was a child I wanted to become a fashion designer. But, alas, I did not really enjoy sewing, so that might have been a problem!

dream that luckily didn´t come true
I thought I would always live in New York City. I loved the energy of living and working there, but after our son was born we moved to a pretty, quiet area of New Jersey. Now, I wouldn't want to go back. I love having a yard and find the noise and crowds in the city to be quite stressful.

love
I associate "love" with hugs, kisses, warmth and support.

Silly boys, power tools are for girls..

I´m so happy to have started this project not only because I became so busy that I can´t find time to have snacks :) but because it gives me an opportunity to meet so interersting personalities, whose wisdom & devotion can motivate all of us.

It´s an awesome girl Neva Starr with the great story & charming shop creations. Her creativity goes beyond the limits, what makes her quite different.
Well, she opens a door into her life for us, so enjoy what you see there :)

I grew up in the mountains of Virgina under the belief the a girl could do & be anything she wanted. Dolls were for sissies,( I'm sure my brothers influenced this thought ) Instead I prefered to play in creek beds, collect pet snails, or create with legos & any other odds n ends I could find. Somehow this all helped make me who I am today. Slowly my art & interests have come forth into the building of this amazing shop. To this day I still prefer a garage/workshop over just about anything else. Althougth the competion for this prime real estate can become quite interesting when you add a husband in the mix .. ( Luv ya Joe :) Originally my "tinkering" was just a hobby. Upon relocating to NC with my husbands job, it was soon realized that due to insane childcare costs I would be best to work from home. With a background in graphic design & photography I began doing art shows, yet people seemed to always be more interested in my homemade displays than in my photography. ( Photography competion is insane ) Thus my shop, Twisted Metals, was born.
Take a sneak peek inside my private studio by watching this short segment produced by Time Warner Cable's, Made In the Carolina's.

PEEK INSIDE NEVA´s STUDIO

Once you take an ordinary object, look past its purpose you will find the extraordinary creations waiting inside. I have a weakness for anything unusual, old or bold.

I create from my heart. I create from my soul. I create for me, this is who I am. With each piece you
also receive a part of me, for my art & my passion is all the same.
I create for my children,to inspire & to allow them to experience the world in a different view. Creativity is found in all, waiting & wanting to be released.

Passion, Soul,Experimenting ,Blood, Sweat & Tears. These are the reasons a shop exists.A true portrayal of the owners in product form.

A forgotten world of abandoned junk, waiting to be brought to life. This is my Bio –the creations born of an inspired mind, adorning the natural earth.Speaking the surreal language of artistic form, I found that from childhood forth, the world I knew was an alternate view. Empowered to greatness in worlds like no other, I've created my own reality.

So, I thnk the pictures & the story itself convinced you to visit NEVA ETSY SHOP

Special thanks to Neva for her cooperation! We wish you good luck for the future & all the best!! ;)

Today everybody is talking about Halloween, costumes & all that´s connected with this strange day. I don´t like this holiday, don´t like its background.

-I don´t like Halloween!
-Oh, don´t be so boring. It´s just fun and nothing more!
... my friend answered, but nevertheless I don´t celebrate it, don´t make special orders for that day, for me it´s just another wonderful autumn day. That´s why I want to show you these great mugs by a great Russian-American Artist Yevgenia.

She learnt traditional & classical techniques of painting while living in Russia & later, moving to New York, she started experimenting with different mediums & found her own manner of painting.

I like her works, they are alive, they are beautiful, they vibrate. And these mugs are my favourite ones. Have a loot at YEVGENIA ETSY SHOP you´ll find great things there. Her floral collection is amazing!

Thoughts

Inspiring stories..

There are thousands of people who write about success. What it means to them & how it came to them, the main rules & all the stuff.. And it doesn´t matter what exactly our field of work is, how old or young we are. Everybody wants to be successful to make his life count.

I believe the most important thing is to know what your goal is. We are much stronger than we think, we can achieve much more than we hope. The main think is to KNOW WHAT WE WANT!

Thanks God, I know what my biggest project of life is & I´ve started small in order to get high. I don´t really understand how I´ll get there, but I´m sure I will.
I believe in my project & I know that one day I´ll look back & will be proud of that what we´ve gained.
Why did  choose such a picture? :) Ballerina prepares herself for hard hours of practising & improving her technique. Her devotion brings her success :)))

So, I´m going to devote the rest of my day the work that with make my goal closer :)))

Are you with me? :)

Have a great day!

Do We Need to Concentrate on the Dust?

They say the creative person is a child who survived.

Pablo Picasso once said, "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life". It´s true, but do we really need it? Do we need to concentrate on the dust?
I know that it´s very controversial to think so, but it´s my territory & I allow myself to write what I really think.

My artist Yuri Pysar doesn´t reveal the problems of society in his works, or tries to wake people´s cosciousness, he follows quite the opposite point of view, he shows how wonderful our life is. He teaches us to see the beauty in simple things, to be aware of our beauty, to follow the beauty & be beautiful & happy , because if we are happy, we create a happy world around us. Actually we make the world better. :))

Yuri Pysar´s  collectors & customers come back, because they feel the harmony looking at the paintings, & want to have more & more these amazing pieces at their home. And to my mind it´s such a blessing  to be able to share the best of your inner world & present people with its beauty!

Sun is there

Today I woke up with the sounds of heavy rain.
And I thought how nice it is that I don't need to go outside. Such weather is always so motivating, because you see that grey colors unexpectedly change to light, alive colors & then you know for sure, that the nature doesn't have bad weather, because there is always sun after rain and that's so wonderful  :)
So, It's a great beginning of the week, & Monday isn't as bad as so many see it :)
Ok, it's time to go back to my work.

Frankly speaking, I seldom mix black & white together in clothing or in my jewelry designs because the combination for me is too extreme & too classic. Either total black or total white look.

What does music mean to me?

If somebody asked me, without what I can't imagine my life I would definitely answer MUSIC. As music reveals all the feelings, music allows us to discover ourselves, it's our inner voice. It's so powerful, it brings you exactly the mood you're looking for, it can calm you down or make excited... All the feelings are hidden in 8 music notes, that's amazing. Freedom of music doesn't have boundaries, harmony of it can't be lost.. And I just can say how happy I am that I can hear it.

Today my star is Rob Costlow with his piano collection... and I feel my feel are losing the ground and I'm starting flying.

P.S. Can you imagine how happy my future bracelets will be, they hear it the whole day long :)

Anthony Hopkins´ Hero Wisdom

There are films that are simple, and you watch them in order to relax and not think, but sometimes we can run at films that can´t be forgotten, that we watch again and again. With every next time they become more and more iteresting and you always find something new, new toughts, new glances, new wisdom.

Today I was overflowed with romantic emotions and remembered the dialogue between a father and a daughter about love in one of my favourite film ""Meet Joe Black". Yes, I can definitely say that life without love is very empty and it doesn´t matter how many friends you have or how cool you are.
Yes, Love is crazy and sometimes it makes us to do stupid or strange things, sometimes it hurts but nevertheless it´s the only thing that brings you the feeling of total happiness.

So be open, lightning could strike!

7 Reasons to fall in love with the fall

Today´s morning is grey, there is no single sun ray here and I understood that the fall is here. Somebody complains, somebody is happy, somebody gets grey and don´t want to go out of the house. But we are not interested in "somebody" we are interesting in us, and our mood is great because the fall is there.

pic by Zila Longenecker

What does it bring us to be happy with?

1. COLORS! Is there any other year season that is so rich in great colors? NOPE. Orange, yellow, red, violet, green.. everything you want.. You can find your favourite color everywhere, no matter where you are, in the mountains or in New York. The color is in the air, that makes us smile and feel happiness.

2. WALKS! How great it is to take a walk in a forest or in the park, feeling the autumn leaves crunching.

3.PHOTOS! You can take so many beautiful photos with the leaves scenes.. They are everywhere due to the fall rules :)

4.TRIPS! There are several cities which look even more amazing in this season. If a had an opportunity today to choose one, I would go to Paris.. bright umbrellas, nice people, tasty croissant, a cup of coffee,  architecture... and rain! A great combination!

5. HOME! How pleasant it´s to stay at home with the beloved on a rainy day. We can stop and relax.. perfect time for enjoying the evening time together.

6. OUTFIT! It´s high time to take out our high heels, beautiful coats, colorful scarfs. How many interesting glances we are getting on that time...  Amazing.

7. CHANGES! Autumn brings changes in nature and it inspires people to change as well. So if you wanted to change but put it off for the better times, do it now, go ahead, it´s the best time for it. The fall energy will help you!

So try to use this fall for changing your attitude to it. It should become positive )) As the world needs more smiles & happy bodies :)))
