The Purple Hawk

These days are very busy with all the etsy stuff, I´m sure you understand what I´k talking about, but nevertheless I promised myself to continue my feature project. That´s why I´m here again & today we meet a wonderful child being 23 years old who stands behind the etsy shop The PURPLE HAWK.

So, meet Sarah form Webster, Massachusetts, US, who is very fond of making things & drawing :)
I was trying to think of something catchy and unique that people would remember. At the time, I was also trying to figure out what color I wanted to dye my new mohawk. Finally I decided and told my boyfriend that I wanted a purple 'hawk. And as soon as I said it I knew it was the perfect name. So really, the shop was named after my hair.

I like it when customers actually want to talk to me, or when they drop a line to say that they're really happy with their purchase. That always means a lot to me.

I like the finished product the most, and knowing that I made it myself. I'm really proud of my work, and I feel like I'm always improving.

Honestly? I usually have some song stuck in my head that just plays over and over and over. Last week it was Poisoning Pigeons in the Park by Tom Lehrer, and now it's that song by the Carpenter's that goes "I'm on top of the world looking down on creation..." The worst part is that's the only line I know. I really need a radio haha

I tend to maintain a very positive outlook on life. I believe everything happens for a reason, and no matter how bad things get I don't stress it too much because somehow it always works out in the end.

Sarah, we thank you for your story & wish you all the best for the upcoming holidays :) and of course sales :))))

Art in the Blue Square

I´ve already missed writing here. But the last week was so busy that I couldn´t manage it.

So, today I´d like to tell you about beautiful soul that is behind the wonderful etsy shop ART IN THE BLUE SQUARE

Sometimes it´s so easy to feel people. In this particular case I really feel the lady who creates this beauty. She comes from Hendersonville, North Carolina, United States & she is open & deep. Her art is here to bring everybody joy. Imagine how cozy your room would look like if the walls were dressed in these cute pictures. And if you get know the creator of this beauty yourself you´ll surely feel how beautiful is the soul behind ART IN THE BLUE SQUARE

My shop name originates from the concepts of my original works. When i began my shop all of my work featured square canvases with a simple blue background. Literally, all the pieces I produced were "art in the blue square". My shop officially opened in September 2011, after encouragement from others that wanted to buy pieces I had created for my own home, and for my children.

The creative process has always been something that intrigues me. I enjoy pulling out a blank canvas and seeing what happens. Some of my favorite pieces are not even available online because of the scale and weight they entail. These pieces are painted on salvaged wood and reveal themselves in the negative. In my own way I think backwards and like to see what the old salvaged piece of wood reveals to me as I paint it.

Art really means anything that you can experience with your senses and that moves you. I have a certain aesthetic that I enjoy, and in fact that sometimes varies wildly from the art that I myself create. I appreciate other peoples work and respect the time and efforts and creativity they put into their pieces. I can feel that a little piece of them comes with the work they create.

I think I could give a canned answer, but my honest answer is Marc Chagall. There is something so romantic about his pieces and I find them enchanting and humorous. I think that it is important to show love in art and I would like to know his inspiration and for him to tell me what love means to him.

I don't really have a Christmas wishlist. I am not one of those kind of people. I wish for the bigger things at Christmas than what can be provided by material things. But gift giving is one of my favorite parts of the holiday.

Thank you for your lovely story :) We wish you to be surrounded by so much love that you give the world with your art. Be inspired & full of energy to fulfill everything that you want to.

Everything old can be new again

Nowadays, there are so many people who really look for interesting pieces that have passed through times & lives of others. They have their own history inside & you notice it as soon as you hold them in your hands.

Our new hero is Erica from P & E Collectibles who loves vintage & sells it in her cosy etsy shop!

My name is Erica and I am from Buffalo, NY. I sell vintage jewelry and collectibles. I am both a collector and a seller. I was first interested in collecting vintage when I was introduced to I Love Lucy as a child by my mother, also a Lucy fan. I started collecting vintage Lucy items and have branched out since to other collections. My grandmother loved vintage jewelry and I think she passed that love on to me. I enjoy integrating vintage objects and styles into my home and dress. Everything old can be new again!

I am inspired by people who are passionate about their interests and people who care about preserving the past. I feel in some small part I am able to help preserve and celebrate the past through my shop.

I love having a home business. It provides flexibility and I continually keep learning every day.

"The more things you do, the more you can do." Lucille Ball

We thank Erica for a nice story & wish her wonderful time & all the best for the future :)

Lovely Cards by QsFlowerStand

Erika. from Santa Ana, California is our new hero. Her etsy shop QsFlowerStand is about charming & chic cards. It´s such a pleasure to get nice cards :)) I love it. To stay in touch with the loved ones in such a way it´s so romantic! So, here is Erika story for you to know who is a wonderful person behind these adorable cards!

I've been involved in the arts since I was about 4 years old. My family made it a point to expose me to as many avenues of art as possible, from the theater to photography. It has definitely led me to discover a creativity within myself. Before I started my shop on Etsy, I was a school teacher. Once I had my first child, it was important for me to stay at home. However, not wanting to get bored, I started experimenting with creative outlets and thus, my shop was born.

childish activity
I loved the theater and always have. I remember all of the performances I would put on with my friends as kids. We would charge money, make costumes, you name it. I wish we had them on film!
inspiring people
My family...especially my daughter. Living life through the eyes of a 2 year old can be quite an experience and one full of imagination and creativity. Other than that, I absolutely LOVE Shakespeare!

I like being creative because basically I think it's fun. But I'm sort of a math and logic type of person, so I enjoy figuring out what works and what doesn't!

favourite weather
I love rainy weather so much. Living in Southern California, you don't see a lot of it. So when we get it, I cherish it. It makes me want to curl up and drink my hot cocoa by the fireplace!

Thank you, Erica, for you cooperation & we wish you & all your family all the best for the future! ;)

Where are you from? - From CHILDHOOD!

We are all from childhood & this little wonderful child that still lives within us wants us to be free & happy. Influencing by different ocassions our inner childline nature is either on the surface or carefuly hidden behind our stereotypes & fears.

Our todays feature is wonderful lady, who surely knows what it means to stay a child Vicky Smith  from vickysmithart. And her story begins.

creative life...
As an illustrator I'm accustomed to using my art to convey an idea or illuminate a text. In many cases, I have used my images and turned them into objects in my Etsy shop. My masks and jumping jack dolls are good examples of that. It's nice to be able to take an original pastel drawing that is essentially very delicate and by printing it, you can turn it into an object that can be handled.

emotions...
I hope that my art makes people smile. It has a certain nostalgic look that evokes childhood.
As a child..
.When I was a child I wanted to become a fashion designer. But, alas, I did not really enjoy sewing, so that might have been a problem!

dream that luckily didn´t come true
I thought I would always live in New York City. I loved the energy of living and working there, but after our son was born we moved to a pretty, quiet area of New Jersey. Now, I wouldn't want to go back. I love having a yard and find the noise and crowds in the city to be quite stressful.

love
I associate "love" with hugs, kisses, warmth and support.

Silly boys, power tools are for girls..

I´m so happy to have started this project not only because I became so busy that I can´t find time to have snacks :) but because it gives me an opportunity to meet so interersting personalities, whose wisdom & devotion can motivate all of us.

It´s an awesome girl Neva Starr with the great story & charming shop creations. Her creativity goes beyond the limits, what makes her quite different.
Well, she opens a door into her life for us, so enjoy what you see there :)

I grew up in the mountains of Virgina under the belief the a girl could do & be anything she wanted. Dolls were for sissies,( I'm sure my brothers influenced this thought ) Instead I prefered to play in creek beds, collect pet snails, or create with legos & any other odds n ends I could find. Somehow this all helped make me who I am today. Slowly my art & interests have come forth into the building of this amazing shop. To this day I still prefer a garage/workshop over just about anything else. Althougth the competion for this prime real estate can become quite interesting when you add a husband in the mix .. ( Luv ya Joe :) Originally my "tinkering" was just a hobby. Upon relocating to NC with my husbands job, it was soon realized that due to insane childcare costs I would be best to work from home. With a background in graphic design & photography I began doing art shows, yet people seemed to always be more interested in my homemade displays than in my photography. ( Photography competion is insane ) Thus my shop, Twisted Metals, was born.
Take a sneak peek inside my private studio by watching this short segment produced by Time Warner Cable's, Made In the Carolina's.

PEEK INSIDE NEVA´s STUDIO

Once you take an ordinary object, look past its purpose you will find the extraordinary creations waiting inside. I have a weakness for anything unusual, old or bold.

I create from my heart. I create from my soul. I create for me, this is who I am. With each piece you
also receive a part of me, for my art & my passion is all the same.
I create for my children,to inspire & to allow them to experience the world in a different view. Creativity is found in all, waiting & wanting to be released.

Passion, Soul,Experimenting ,Blood, Sweat & Tears. These are the reasons a shop exists.A true portrayal of the owners in product form.

A forgotten world of abandoned junk, waiting to be brought to life. This is my Bio –the creations born of an inspired mind, adorning the natural earth.Speaking the surreal language of artistic form, I found that from childhood forth, the world I knew was an alternate view. Empowered to greatness in worlds like no other, I've created my own reality.

So, I thnk the pictures & the story itself convinced you to visit NEVA ETSY SHOP

Special thanks to Neva for her cooperation! We wish you good luck for the future & all the best!! ;)
